Welcome! I am a Michigan Doula and Child Birth Educator for Emmet and Charlevoix Counties . I offer services such as emotional, physical and spiritual support to  birthing parents and families during childbirth and postpartum period. My goal is to help you establish a birth plan that will provide a nurturing, caring, supportive environment for you during the amazing life-event of childbirth.

An important piece of a positive birth experience is the atmosphere.

 

During labor its important to decrease adrenaline and keep oxytocine (love hormone) flowing. 

 

One way a Doula can assist in this process is by keeping the environment calm and relaxing. Providing low lighting, candles, light projection, music, touch, massage, smells and sounds that bring joy to the birthing mother.  Once you have the atomosphere set its easy to keep the interruptions at a minimum because the mood is set and everyone who enters the room follows the flow and mood.

 

A calm environment helps with the hormones of labor and forward progress by:

 

Oxytocine boost- a calm quit enviornment helps oxytocine flow freely and maintain effective contractions.

 

Decreases Adrenaline- low lighting and quit/calm rooms help prevent "fight or flight responses" which slow down the progression of labor

 

Release of Endorphines- Endorphines are the bodies natrual pain killer it helsp lower anxiety and cope with intensity of contractions
